A man who shot and wounded his roommate Friday afternoon in Oregon City before barricading himself in an apartment has been identified as 31-year-old Daniel Craig Wiese, officials said Saturday.

Around 3:30 p.m. Friday, the victim, who has not been identified, called police and told them he’d been shot by Wiese in the unit they shared at the Mt. View Apartments on the 1800 block of Molalla Ave., police said in a news release.

Arriving officers determined the victim was in a bedroom and broke out a window to extract him from the apartment. He was taken to OHSU Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. The victim’s condition was unclear as of Saturday morning.

A SWAT team was called in along with crisis negotiators, and officers tried to convince Wiese to come out peacefully. At one point, police fired some sort of chemical agent into the apartment and at least one officer fired a shot into the dwelling, though police said no one was injured.

Eventually, police said, Wiese came out, though he was not cooperating with officers. Police used “less lethal” weapons to take him into custody and he was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, officials said, before being transported to the Clackamas County Jail.

He is being held without bail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
