Penny Dreadful is returning to Showtime next year, and now they’ve added some Game of Thrones royalty into the mix as Natalie Dormer joins the cast as a shapeshifting demon in 1930s Los Angeles for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. The first series boasted awesome performances from Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton and Billie Piper. It’s in that sense that Magda, her character on Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, is similar.
What Is The Show About?
As a spiritual successor to the fan-favorite supernatural series, PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS is a new show from original series’ creator, writer and executive producer John Logan.
This new series takes place amid the social and political tensions of Los Angeles in 1938, while being heavily steeped in Mexican-American folklore. He finds himself entangled in a tale that “reflects the history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the unsafe espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism”. Vega and his family will be forced to face “powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart”.
Dormer is best known for her roles in Game of Thrones and the Hunger Games franchise.
Dormer will play Magda, a supernatural demon who can take the appearance of anyone she chooses and manifests in a number of guises throughout the story. This role seems like a flawless fit for the former Marjory Tyrell.
Medical app told Facebook when users were on their periods, investigation finds
It instructs developers not to share “health, financial information or other categories of sensitive information” with it. Yet despite Facebook’s rules, Flo was not an isolated case, according to The Wall Street Journal’s investigation .
The cast also includes Jessica Garza (The Purge), and Jonathan Nieves (New Amsterdam). Nieves will play Tiago’s “volatile” but “essentially goodhearted” little brother Mateo, who “lacks the clear strength and ambition of Tiago” and is “vulnerable to both his own capricious emotions and various influences around him”. “As always in the world of PENNY DREADFUL, there are no heroes or villains in this world, only protagonists and antagonists; complicated and conflicted characters living on the fulcrum of moral choice”.
From King’s Landing to the City of Angels.
The role marks a return to for Dormer, who previously starred in the premium cabler’s series “The Tudors“. But as of now, it’s unclear if this series is stand alone, or connected to the previous, American Horror Story style. Taking a macro look at the show, this part seems like a ideal character for an in-demand actress to play; if Dormer secures a high-profile role in a movie or another show and has a scheduling conflict, Penny Dreadful could easily depict her character in another form for an episode or two until she’s available to film again.
