James Bond 25 is now in production, but casting details are still being kept under wraps – aside from the fact that Daniel Craig, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw and Ralph Fiennes are all returning. But as for who will join the ranks – specifically in the new female lead – remains to be seen. The top-billed female, often divisively referred to as the “Bond girl”, is now considered by bookies to be one rising star in particular.
Odds have been slashed on Jodie Comer, star of Killing Eve and Doctor Foster, taking the gig.
Ahead of the return of the BBC series, which also stars Sandra Oh, bookies Coral have lowered her odds right down to 2/1 to star alongside craig.
A spokesperson said: “Jodie Comer was the star of the show in the opening series of Killing Eve and ahead of the return of the drama, punters are backing her to become the next Bond girl where she is now the favourite in the betting.”
It was previously suggested that Lupita Nyong’o was top of producers’ wishlist, but she was subsequently ruled out.
Emma Stone and Dakota Johnson have also previously been the subject of much speculation.
As for the villain, Rami Malek is widely considered to be close to confirming his involvement.
It’s worth noting, though, that the apparent villain seen on set for filming in Norway last week was not Malek.
Plot details, as well as the actual title, are being kept under wraps for the time being.
The film is slated for release on April 8, 2020 – so could we get an influx of information on Monday, one year out from it?
Bond 25 is thought to be Craig’s final outing as 007, with speculation continuing over who will replace him.
Tom Hiddleston is the 6/4 favourite, followed by James Norton (3/1), Idris Elba (4/1), Tom Hardy (4/1) and Cillian Murphy (16/1).
Bond 25 is out on April 8, 2020.
