The extended trailer for DC’s Doom Patrol is an excellent primer for what fans are about to see this weekend when the show premieres. We get to see how each one of the heroes obtained their gift that alienated them from the rest of the world and gave them another purpose in life. In addition to the often heartbreaking origin stories, the extended trailer offers more of a glimpse at just how strange the new series is going to be.
Though DC’s Doom Patrol has yet to debut, it has been getting early positive reviews for being refreshing and different from anything else out there in the superhero TV realm. Another strong point that the show has going for it is its ensemble cast. The Doom Patrol are Robotman aka Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser), Negative Man aka Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer), Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr (April Bowbly), and Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero) who are led by Niles Caulder, aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton). The team is called on by Cyborg (Joivan Wade) for a mission.
The extended Doom Patrol trailer shows Robotman’s previous life as a racecar driver, Negative Man’s past as a test pilot in the military, who is conflicted with his lifestyle, and shows Elasti-Woman’s life as a leading actress, who seems to be a bit mean. Crazy Jane’s multiple personalities come out for a bit in the trailer too, while Cyborg’s transformation leaves him confused and conflicted. DC has released a very intriguing look at the upcoming series that highlights what makes the Doom Patrol so special and strange at the same time. It’s going to be interesting to see how DC fans react to the show once they’re finished.
At just under five minutes, the Doom Patrol extended trailer shows off just how good the chemistry is between the cast members. Timothy Dalton and the welcome return of Brendan Fraser is great, though it will be short lived since Dalton’s Chief goes missing. Doom Patrol is the second live-action original series for the DC Universe subscription streaming service. Titans was the first and that show premiered last October. This is fitting since the Doom Patrol was introduced as live-action heroes in the fourth episode of the Titans series.
DC’s Doom Patrol premieres tomorrow, February 15th exclusively on the DC Universe subscription streaming service. For fans, it seems that the new series is refreshingly self-aware, which should make for a fun watching experience that will take people out of the norm of what’s happening with superhero shows on TV. Netflix’s Umbrella Academy has a similar tone on the surface, but looks to offer something much different. Coincidentally, the Netflix series drops tomorrow too. While we all wait to check out Doom Patrol, you can check out the extended trailer and get introduced to the team below, thanks to the DC YouTube channel.
