Who else would like to see Thor becomes 007?
Speaking to Balance , Hemsworth revealed he would definitely be up for the role of the secret agent.
He said: ‘When we were shooting Rush someone had said that and I thought, “Cool, if this is my audition tape, then great.” I don’t think you’ll ever meet anyone who doesn’t want to have a crack at James Bond. I’d love to do it.”
“But that’s up to so many elements and is way beyond myself; it’s not one you can pitch yourself on to either.”
The actor also discussed how the fan community of Bond is vital, as is the opinion of producer Barbara Broccoli.
“It’s something that the community of Bond fans, Barbara Broccoli and the whole crew there agree on, and it has to be a very organic decision from them. There have been a lot of names thrown out there and a lot of brilliant people can tackle that one.”
Leading bookmaker Coral has cut the odds on Chris Hemsworth taking over to 16-1 (from 50-1) after the Avengers star threw his hat into the ring.
“Hemsworth has made no secret of his desire to step into Bond’s shoes and we’ve slashed our odds on him replacing Daniel Craig as the next 007 off the back of it and he’s now just 16-1 to land the top job,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
“Hemsworth would hope to enjoy more longevity than the last Australian to play Britain’s favourite Secret Service agent, with George Lazenby’s only film being On Her Majesty’s Secret Service back in 1969,” added Aitkenhead.
Other top contenders with bookies for the role of the next Bond are Tom Hiddleston, Richard Madden, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and more recently, Scottish actor Sam Heughan.
Daniel Craig will exit the franchise in next year’s Bond 25, which will be directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and co-stars Lea Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris.
It is also widely expected that Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek will portray the Bond villain .
Hemsworth can next be seen on screen as his iconic character Thor in the culmination of the first saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame.
Bond 25 is released in UK cinemas on April 8, 2020.
