As Daniel Craig wraps up what is thought to be his last ever stint as the iconic James Bond in the upcoming film, rumours over who will take on the role have been rife. The 50-year-old, who has starred as 007 in the film series since Casino Royale in 2006, said that he wouldn’t be returning to the role after Spectre in 2015 – but he is signed on for Bond 25, slated for release in 2020.
However, after his reluctance to take part in the movie, fans of the franchise are certain he’ll step down from the role – which leaves the audience to speculate over which other potential actors could take up the reins.
Although Idris Elba was thought to be in the running for a while, he shut down the rumours once and for all earlier this year – and the spotlight has now turned onto Game Of Thrones actor Richard Madden after his performance in Bodyguard over the summer.
He’s now spoken out about the rumours, telling GQ magazine that it would be “brilliant” – but that he doesn’t want to officially throw his hat into the ring in case he “jinxes” himself.

He said, “I’m more than flattered to be mentioned, for people to consider putting me in that role. I’m very flattered and thankful. It’s a really brilliant thing to be in. I don’t want to curse anything by saying anything. I think that’s the curse of that – if you talk about it, you’ll curse it.
“This is what happens with all these shows, like Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager. Then there’s the next one. I’m the next one. Everyone just loves the rumour mill on that topic. I’m just the current one. There’ll be a different one next week.”
The Scottish actor, who first rose to prominence as Robb Stark on Game Of Thrones, has been endorsed by his GOT co-star, Kit Harington, said, “I don’t want to curse him. Any time anyone starts to get rumoured for Bond, it becomes a curse on them. And the reason I don’t want to do that is that I actually do think he would make a very good Bond.
“He’s got this natural charm. He’s proven with Bodyguard that he has that muscle for it. And wouldn’t it be nice to go back to a Scottish Bond?”
