It’ll be shaken, not stirred as the Marshall Symphony Orchestra presents its 11th annual Jeans ‘n’ Classics on Sept. 16.
Jeans ‘n’ Classics, set for 8 p.m. in downtown Marshall, will feature the music of “agent 007 James Bond.”
“Every year we do something different,” Event Coordinator Tiffany Ammerman said. “Marshall Symphony Orchestra Conductor Kermit Poling thought it would be interesting. There’s a lot of great music (in the Bond films). A lot of people don’t realize when they watch a movie who’s behind the music. I think you’ll be surprised what will be (featured).”
Songs from the “James Bond” movies have been composed by John Barry, Paul McCartney, Adele and Shirley Bassey.
Though the main event is Sept. 16, the orchestra planned a week’s worth of celebrations that started Sept. 9 with a costume party.
At 6 p.m. Sept. 14, Poling will join residents at Central Perks, 211 N. Washington Ave. in Marshall, for “Coffee with the Conductor.” Admission is free.
“It will be fun,” Ammerman said. “(Poling) will be playing a little bit on the keyboard and telling you a little bit about the concert … but he’ll probably also be playing tunes and having you guess what song he’s playing. He’s got a fun night planned.”
At 5 p.m. Sept. 15 and Sept. 16, prior to the rehearsal and the concert, a wine tasting will be held at Pazzo Vino, 101 W. Austin St.
A rehearsal for Jeans ‘n’ Classics will be at 8 p.m. Sept. 15 downtown. It is free to attend.
The main attraction itself also starts at 8 p.m. Sept. 16. Cost is $25 in advance or $30 the night of the event. Student tickets are $15.
Tickets can be purchased at the Marshall News Messenger, the Marshall Convention and Visitor’s Bureau-Marshall, Weisman Center, the Marshall Regional Arts Council, Gingko Leak Gallery, KMHT and KGAS. Tickets also are available online at marshallartscouncil.org and marshallsymphony.com or by calling (903) 926-4413.
